LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team got off to a quick start, scoring early and often on the way to a 5-0 victory over Colgate University (1-13) this afternoon as LHU opened its 2016 Homecoming Weekend.
The Bald Eagles took a 1-0 lead just 6:02 into the match on a goal by
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) and
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) scored twice as Lock Haven extended its win streak to four matches.
Today's shutout marked LHU's third in the last four games and fifth of the season as The Haven improved to 9-4 overall.
Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) and
MacKenzie Farley (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) also scored for Lock Haven.
LHU led 4-0 at halftime and Farley scored in the second half.
Roach finished with a goal and two assists.
Lock Haven outshot Colgate 21-5.
Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) and
Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent) led another strong defensive effort, and goalkeeper
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) turned away three shots.
Lock Haven will cap Homecoming Weekend on Sunday, October 16 at 12 p.m. when the Bald Eagles return to Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) action in an important game vs. first-place Saint Joseph's. Sunday also marks LHU's 2016 Senior Day as it is Lock Haven's final home game of the regular season.
