LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (9-5, 4-3 A-10) rallied in the second half and scored a goal with less than 10 minutes to play, but it wasn't enough as first-place Saint Joseph's (11-5, 6-0 A-10) held on for an important Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) win, 2-1.
Today marked LHU's 2016 Senior Day as today's match was Lock Haven's final home game of the regular season and capped Homecoming Weekend at The Haven.
Prior to the game, the Bald Eagles honored their seniors:
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring),
Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin),
Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent),
Tabatha Almond (Souderton, Pa./Souderton),
Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain),
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and student-assistant coach
Kiersten Cepeda.
The senior class is responsible for 50 career wins and two A-10 semifinal appearances.
The Hawks scored twice in the opening half as Anna Willocks scored both goals for Saint Joseph's.
It was a tale of two halves today, as Lock Haven looked to overcome the two-goal deficit in the second half.
The Bald Eagles heavy pressure paid off late in the game as McCabe scored to make it 2-1 with less than 10 minutes to play in the match. McCabe deflected home a
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) shot.
The Haven rally continued into the final minutes as
Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) had a chance to tie the match with 1:36 left, but her shot forced a big save by Hawks goalkeeper Victoria Kammerinke.
Stuppy finished with two saves for LHU.
