LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Today, the offense erupted and the Bald Eagles got seven goals from six different players, and the defense held strong as the Lock Haven University field hockey team (6-4, 3-2 A-10) dominated visiting Saint Louis (1-9, 0-3 A-10) for a 7-0 Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) victory.
LHU outshot Saint Louis 14-4 and
Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) led a strong defensive effort as the Bald Eagles recorded their third shutout of the 2016 season.
Leading the way for LHU offensively was
Michele Enck (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor), who had two goals and one assist.
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) dished out three assists.
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring),
Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin),
Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent),
Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) and
April Stafford (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) all scored for LHU.
Whiteman had one assist and she was credited with a defensive save.
Tabatha Almond (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) and
Rachael Martinelli (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) both played well throughout the game, especially on a defensive side to help Lock Haven to victory.
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) made one save on the way to her sixth win of the season.
Lock Haven led 2-0 at halftime and scored five second-half goals.
Lock Haven now hits the road for a pair of games. LHU is set to take on Appalachian State on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m. and plays at Davidson (A-10) on Sunday, October 9 (12 p.m.).
