Roach scores twice as LHU shuts out Appalachian State

The LHU field hockey team got two goals from Tamia Roach and the Bald Eagles shut out Appalachian State 3-0.

BOONE, N.C. – Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) scored twice to spark the offense and the Bald Eagles defense once again stood strong as the Lock Haven University field hockey team (7-4) shut out host Appalachian State (1-10) 3-0 tonight in non-conference action.

LHU limited Appalachian State to just six shots on goal as the Bald Eagles recorded their second straight shutout and fourth of the season.

The defensive effort was led by Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East), who had one defensive save and goalkeeper Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon), who made five saves.

Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) put Lock Haven up 1-0 in the ninth minute and Roach made it 2-0 in the 27th minute with her first of two goals in the match.

Roach capped the scoring in the second half (43'). Both of Roach's goals came off penalty corners and were assisted by Whiteman and Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent).

LHU returns to Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) action on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Davidson.
