AMHERST, Mass. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (9-8, 4-4 A-10) dropped a crucial Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) match today at Massachusetts (11-7, 6-2 A-10), 3-2.
The game was the final conference game of the regular season for the Bald Eagles, who needed a win to secure an A-10 Tournament bid.
Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent) and
Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) tallied goals for Lock Haven and goalkeeper
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) turned in another brilliant 11-save effort.
All five goals today came in the opening half.
The two teams wasted little time in getting rolling today.
Just 12:06 in into the game, McCabe made it 1-0 when she knocked home a rebound in front of the cage.
UMass tied it just 1:28 later when Anne Dijkstra recorded the marker.
The hosts took the 2-1 lead in the 23
rd minute when and extended their lead to 3-1 in the 25
th minute.
The Bald Eagles responded and made it a one-goal game again - thanks to Wenrich's goal in the 30
th minute. The goal which was set up by a McCabe pass off a penalty corner was LHU's second of the first half as UMass led, 3-2.
