Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Strong second half pushes LHU past Davidson

The Bald Eagles used a two-goal second half to rally past host-Davidson for an important Atlantic 10 Conference win.

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (8-4, 4-2 A-10) rallied for two second-half goals and posted an important Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) victory at Davidson College (3-11, 1-4 A-10), 3-2 this afternoon.

The win was Lock Haven's third straight and one that has major post-season implications on the line with just two league games remaining. The Bald Eagles were coming off a 3-0 Friday-night victory at Appalachian State in non-conference action.

Today, Lock Haven trailed 2-1 at halftime, but used two second-half tallies, including the game-winner from Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) as the Bald Eagles powered to the comeback-win.

Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) put LHU up 1-0 just 15:23 into the game after she fired home a pass from Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin).

Davidson then closed the first half with two straight goals and led 2-1 at the break.

Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) took a pass from Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) and scored in the 39th minute to level the score at 2-2.

George then took a pass from Smith in the 52nd minute and dribbled into the circle past the defense before shooting the ball past the Davidson goalkeeper for the game-winner.

Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) was key in the win and finished with three saves. Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) once again sparked the defensive effort as LHU stood strong late.
