MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lock Haven University softball team picked up pair of wins today moving LHU to 2-2 overall on the young season.
The Bald Eagles opened the day with a 5-1 victory over Wilmington (Del.) and down Felician, 3-2 to cap the 2-0 day at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Game 1, Wilmington Recap: W, 5-1 Lock Haven got five runs on nine hits and the Bald Eagles used a three-run top of the seventh to soar by Wilmington for LHU's first win of the 2016 season.
Pitcher
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) went the distance in the circle and recorded four strikeouts. She scattered six hits and gave up just one run.
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown),
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) and
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) all had multiple-hit games.
Weaknecht was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Holweger knocked in a pair of runs and Garlock scored once.
Game 2, Felician Recap: W, 3-2 Trailing 2-0, Lock Haven scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, which proved to be the difference in the outcome.
Freshman pitcher
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) struck out seven on the way to her first career collegiate win.
Fellow rookie
Jessica Strouse (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) provided a huge offensive spark for Lock Haven. She drove in a pair of runs and picked up a pair of hits.
Holweger was strong at the plate as well for the second straight game, going 2 for 3.
The Bald Eagles round out the weekend tomorrow (Sunday, February 21) vs. Merrimack and Le Moyne at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively.
