MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lock Haven University softball team capped the opening weekend of the 2016 season with a split today, wrapping up play at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Bald Eagles opened the day with a 5-4 victory over Merrimack, but fell to Le Moyne, 7-4.
Game 1, Merrimack Recap: W, 5-4 Bekah Slattery's (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning capped a three-run inning for the Bald Eagles, which paved the way for the win.
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) doubled in the fifth and drove in two more LHU runs.

Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) struck out four over five innings and helped her own cause with a pair of hits. She was 2 for 2 at the plate with a run scored.
Slattery picked up the save.
Game 2, Le Moyne Recap: L, 7-4 LHU closed tournament play with a 7-4 loss to Le Moyne. The loss snapped Lock Haven's three-game win streak.
Slattery struck out six over five innings, but Le Moyne scored seven runs on seven hits.
With Lock Haven trailing 7-1,
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) did all she could to rally the Bald Eagle bats in a pinch hitting opportunity. She took full advantage, knocking in three runs on a double to the wall.
After dropping both games on Friday, the Bald Eagles responded in a big way yesterday (Saturday) with a pair of wins. LHU beat Wilmington 5-1 and edged Felician 3-2.
LHU will make its annual trip south to Florida and return to the diamond on Friday, March 4. The Bald Eagles are scheduled to play 14 games from March 4 to March 12 in the Sunshine State.
