CLERMONT, Fla. – Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) threw a no-hitter, powering the Bald Eagles to a win over Georgian Court, which helped the Lock Haven University softball team (4-4) earn a split on Day 1 in Florida.
Lock Haven opened the day with a 10-8 loss to Southern Indiana, but The Haven responded in a big way, downing Georgian Court, 10-1, thanks to the dominance of Mouillesseaux.
Southern Indiana scored 10 runs on 15 hits and the Bald Eagles eight runs came off 10 hits, as the two teams locked up in an offensive slugfest.
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) was 3 for 4 with a two-run home run and three total RBIs, and
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In the win over Georgian Court, the Bald Eagle bats backed up Mouillesseaux's masterful performance. She struck out six and Lock Haven got 10 runs off eight hits.
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntington) sparked the offense with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first and
Gabrielle Henson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) led off the bottom of the second with a home run.
Garlock finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs.
Today's games marked the first two of 14 in Florida over the next nine days. LHU plays tomorrow (Saturday, March 5) at 9 a.m. (vs. Lake Erie) and 1 p.m. (vs. St. Cloud State).
