Houde’s last second save preserves 9-8 win for #7 Bald Eagles

Bald Eagles hold on for 9-8 win over #17 Seton Hill

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 7 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (6-0, 2-0 PSAC) remained perfect today, as the Bald Eagles held on to defeat No. 17 Seton Hill University (1-5, 0-2 PSAC) 9-8 in a PSAC clash at Charlotte Smith Field.
 
LHU goalkeeper Hannah Houde (Jackson, N.J./Slippery Rock Univ.) saved the day for The Haven by making an outstanding save with just one second left in the game to preserve the win.
 
Everything went Lock Haven's way in the opening period.  The Bald Eagles closed the half on a 6-0 run in the final 24 minutes to take an 8-2 lead at the break.
 
The Griffins responded, however and SHU took control immediately in the second half.  With momentum on its side, Seton Hill roared back and outscored LHU 5-1 in the second half to cut the LHU lead to 9-7 with 10:26 remaining in the game.
 
SHU scored its sixth goal of the half with 6:58 to play that made it a one goal game, 9-8.
 
It would be the final goal in the game, however as Houde made two saves in the final minutes, including the big one at the buzzer to seal the win.
 
Houde made five saves on the afternoon.
 
Dana Laulis (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led LHU offensively with a big a first half.  Laulis put up a hat trick in the opening period to go along with two assists.
 
Hope Thomas (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Rachel Engler (Perkiomenville, Pa./Rutgers) each scored two goals for LHU.
 
Thomas was solid defensively as well in the midfield and scooped up five ground balls.
 
Shannon Bissnette (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) was crucial in setting up The Haven offense all afternoon and finished with three assists.
 
Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) posted a game-high seven draw controls in the win and she scored once on two shots.
 
The Bald Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 23 when LHU hosts Shippensburg University in a PSAC matchup at 4 p.m.
 
Wednesday's game with SHIP will be broadcast live by FOX56 Sports Productions and aired live on MYTV WQMY.
