Game Recap: Baseball |

Bats fuel big Game-2 win, split at Ship

LHU scored 12 runs on 16 hits in a Game-2 win at Shippensburg to earn a PSAC East split.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (12-7, 4-2 PSAC East) scored 12 runs on 16 hits and won game two of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader at Shippensburg University (10-14, 2-4 PSAC East), 12-2, helping the Bald Eagles split the first two games of a four-game conference series.

Host-Shippensburg edged Lock Haven, 1-0 in game one. The two teams will meet again tomorrow (Saturday, March 26) in The Haven to cap the four-game set.

Game one proved to be an pitcher's duel between LHU's Parker Watson (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) and Ship's Mark Curtis. Watson was the tough-luck loser after six strong innings. He scattered six hits and struck out seven.

Shippensburg scored the game's only run - an unearned run - in the bottom of sixth.

Tyson Petersheim (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) and Jamie Eshleman (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) had two hits apiece.

Game two proved to be a completely different story, as the Bald Eagle bats erupted for 12 runs on 16 hits.

The offensive power was complimented by another strong pitching effort – this time from Mike Anthony (Audubon, Pa./North Hampton Community College) – who helped power Lock Haven to the 12-2 win.

Anthony improved to 4-0 after 5 2/3 strong innings of work. She struck out six and allowed just three hits.

Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College) went 4 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and Nick Stotler (Pittsburgh/Coker College) went 3 for 5. Matt Lahn (Georgetown, ONT./Erie Community College) drove in a pair of runs to cap a huge offensive outing for Lock Haven.

Tomorrow's game one is set for a 1 p.m. start at Foundation Field.
