LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (19-9, 2-2 PSAC Central) split a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central doubleheader today at home with Mansfield University (9-12, 1-3 PSAC Central).
Behind a sensational game-one effort from
Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), Lock Haven won 4-0. Slattery picked up her 10
th win of the season in the pitcher's circle and helped her own cause with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
Despite a furious rally in the bottom of the seventh that saw LHU plate three runs in game two, Mansfield held on for the 4-3 victory.
In game one, Slattery threw seven scoreless innings on the way to the win, which helped her move to 10-3 on the season. She scattered four hits and struck out nine.
Slattery helped her own cause with a three-run homer in the fourth, which put Lock Haven up 4-0.
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) put Lock Haven up 1-0 in the third with an RBI-single and
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) was 2 for 3 at the plate in game one.
In game two, Lock Haven trailed 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bald Eagles rallied.
Bryann Hilty's (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) pinch-hit RBI single put LHU on the board and Garlock followed it up with a two-RBI single, as the Bald Eagles cut the lead to one at, 4-3.
Mansfield however hung on and won the second game of the PSAC Central doubleheader.
Garlock was 2 for 4 and
Gabrielle Henson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) was 2 for 3.
On Friday, April 1, Lock Haven hosts Pitt-Johnstown at 2:30 p.m.
