Softball sweeps UPJ in PSAC Central action

Bald Eagles sweep Pitt-Johnstown in PSAC Central action; improve to 4-2 in league play.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (21-9, 4-2 PSAC Central) swept visiting Pitt-Johnstown (6-13, 3-3 PSAC Central) and improved to 4-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central action.
 
LHU won game one 4-0 behind a strong pitching effort from Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and the Bald Eagles took game two, 4-1.
 
Lock Haven is now 4-2 is PSAC Central action, thanks to today's sweep of UPJ. LHU opened divisional-play with a split vs. both IUP and Mansfield. The Bald Eagles host Clarion tomorrow (Saturday, April 2).
 
The Bald Eagles have won 13 of their last 15 games.
 
Slattery was the story in the 4-0 game-one victory. She carried a perfect game through 4 1/3 innings and finished with eight strikeouts. Slattery allowed just two hits.
 
Jessica Strouse (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) went 2 for 3 with a run scored, and a RBI. Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) added a pair of hits.
 
In game two, Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, NY./Union Endicott) struck out eight and scattered six hits on the way to the win.
 
Holweger had another strong outing at the plate and finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
 
First pitch in game one tomorrow (Saturday, April 2) vs. Clarion is set for 1 p.m.
