LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University lacrosse team (1-0) opened the 2016 season and a new era of "Haven Lax" in similar fashion, as the Bald Eagles soared by visiting Shepherd (0-3), 14-4.
The win gave first-year Lock Haven head coach
Lindsay Reese her first win in her return to her alma mater.
LHU jumped on Shepherd early and often and led 6-1 at halftime.
Newcomer
Rachel Engler (Perkiomenville, Pa./Rutgers) led the offensive charge with five goals and
Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) added three.
A total of six different players scored, including
Shannon Bissnette (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland), who had two goals and two assists.
Kelly Close (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) led the defensive effort with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Hannah Houde (Jackson, N.J./Slippery Rock Univ.) made six saves in her first career start at Lock Haven.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 9 at 6 p.m. EST at Colorado State Pueblo.
