CAL scores five runs in the top of the 9th to steal the win

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (4-3) fell in its final game of the weekend against California (Pa.) University (4-7) today in Thomasville, North Carolina.

The Bald Eagles led for much of the game, but a five-run top of the ninth propelled the Vulcans to the 8-5 win.

Jimmy Webb (Williamsport, Pa./Wake Forest) led LHU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Brady Chappell (Milton, Pa./Milton) made his first start of the season behind the dish and led The Haven with three hits, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Tyson Petersheim (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Lock Haven led 5-2 through seven full innings, but the Vulcans tacked on a run on the eighth and then scored five unearned runs in the top of the ninth to steal the win.

Zach Manuppelli (Pittsburgh/USC Upstate) started on the mound for LHU and allowed just two runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings of work.  He struck out five.

Lock Haven swept California in both games of yesterday's doubleheader that kicked off the Bald Eagles spring break trip.

LHU will have an off day tomorrow before hitting the diamond again on Tuesday when The Haven plays a true road game at Winston-Salem State University.  First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
