Softball soars, sweeps Clarion

Bald Eagles sweep PSAC Central DH; win both games 8-0 in five innings.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (23-9, 6-2 PSAC Central) scored a combined 16 runs on 19 hits and got two solid pitching efforts in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central sweep of visiting Clarion University (3-20, 1-7 PSAC Central).
 
The Bald Eagles won both games 8-0 in five innings.
 
Over the two-game sweep, LHU collected 19 hits and scored 16 runs. In game one, LHU scored eight runs on 11 hits and the Bald Eagles scored eight runs on eight hits in game two.
 
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was Lock Haven's big bat and went 4 for 6 with six RBIs over the two-game set.. In game two, she was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and five RBIs.
 
Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) threw a three-hit gem in game one. She struck out eight.
 
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntington) was 3 for 3 with a RBI and run scored, while Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) and Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) both went 2 for 3.
 
With Lock Haven leading 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) ended the game with a two-out single that drove in a pair of runs.
 
In game two, Mouillessesseaux was outstanding in the circle and tossed a five-inning, one hitter. She struck out three in the dominating effort.
 
Holweger was 3 for 3 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
 
Mouillesseaux helped her own cause by driving in a pair of runs.
 
Next weekend will be a busy one for LHU softball as the Bald Eagles prepare for six games in all. Lock Haven opens the weekend with a key PSAC Central doubleheader at rival Bloomsburg University on Friday, April 8 (2:30/4:30 p.m.). LHU hosts IUP on Saturday and Goldey-Beacom on Sunday.
