Haven drops PSAC East DH with #14 ESU

Bald Eagles hang tough, but downed 6-2 and 4-1 (8 innings) by No. 14 East Stroudsburg in PSAC East doubleheader.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second day in a row, the Lock Haven University baseball team (17-22, 6-14 PSAC East) went toe-to-toe with No. 14 East Stroudsburg University (30-10, 13-7 PSAC East), but in the end the Warriors came out on top in both games of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader today.

ESU won game one 6-2 and the Warriors took game two 4-1 in eight innings.

In game one, East Stroudsburg scored two runs in the sixth and added three runs in the seventh. The Warriors six runs came on seven hits.

The Bald Eagles struck first, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to a Jimmy Webb (Williamsport, Pa./Wake Forest) RBI-triple and a Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) RBI-single.

LHU pitcher Jacob Belinda (Port Matilda, Pa./Tyrone) was solid, despite earning a no decision. He struck out seven and allowed just three hits over five innings of work.

Sam Kysor (Port Allegany, Pa./USC Upstate) had a pair of hits.

In game two, ESU used a three-run top half of the eighth inning to escape with a victory.

Trailing 1-0, Jamie Eshleman (Lewisberry, Pa./Redland) singled in the tying run in the fourth.

Webb was 2 for 3, as was Eshleman.

Zach Manuppelli (Pittsburgh/USC Upstate) struck out three and was a tough-luck loser despite giving up 10 hits.

LHU will host IUP on Tuesday, April 19 at 3 p.m. in a single 9-inning contest.
