MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (28-12, 11-5 PSAC Central) rallied in game one for the win over Mansfield University (13-20, 5-11 PSAC Central) and the Bald Eagles completed the sweep with a dominating victory in game two, helping LHU clinch a postseason berth.
Lock Haven won game one 3-1, thanks to a rally in the seventh that saw the Bald Eagles plate all three runs. In game two, LHU scored 10 runs on 16 hits in what proved to be another dominating offensive output.
Yesterday, LHU swept Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central action and today's sweep marked LHU 's fourth straight win, all of them important PSAC Central wins. Today's sweep moves Lock Haven to 28-12 on the year and the Bald Eagles are now 11-5 in Central Division action, clinching a postseason spot.
Lock Haven trailed Mansfield 1-0 as the two teams headed to the seventh inning and LHU responded in a big way.
The Bald Eagles' two-out magic all started with a
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) single down the leftfield line that led a Mansfield error, allowing LHU to plate all three runs.
All seven of LHU's game-one hits came from seven different players.
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) was dominant in the circle. She scattered four hits and struck out eight.
In game two, LHU soared to a big 10-5 win, thanks to
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), who went 4 for 5 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Both Holweger and
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) homered.
Mouillesseaux was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Lock Haven will travel to Shepherd on Monday, April 18 for non-conference action (2:30/4:30 p.m.).
