Men’s Soccer soars to victory in season-opener

The LHU men’s soccer team opened a new era in style as the Bald Eagles soared by Daemen, 3-1.

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (1-0) opened the 2016 season and a new era in style today as the Bald Eagles soared by host-Daemen College (0-1), 3-1.

The win gave LHU head coach Patrick Long his first career victory as he made his collegiate head coaching debut. The 2008 LHU graduate was hired in January (2016) and is leading the Bald Eagles into a new era.

Leading the way today was Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley), who scored two goals for the Bald Eagles.

Amspacher struck in the 11th minute and put LHU up 1-0. The Bald Eagles made it 2-0 less than two minutes later as Zach Hommey (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) found the back of the net.

Lock Haven led 2-0 at halftime and Amspacher made it 3-0 in the 56th minute on his second goal of the match as he converted on a penalty shot.

Daemen got one goal back late, but it wasn't enough to spoil the party for the Bald Eagles.

Goalkeeper Troy Teresak (Pompton Plains, N.J./DePaul Catholic) made two saves and Tyler Shumaker (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst) was credited with two assists.

LHU returns to action on Sunday, September 4 at No. 16 Urbana (1 p.m.).
