URBANA, Ohio. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (1-1) gave No. 16 Urbana University (2-0) all it could handle, but the Bald Eagles' upset-big came up short as host-Blue Knights netted a pair of second-half goals and won 2-0.
Urbana held a slight 6-3 advantage in shots at halftime, but the two teams remained scoreless after the opening 45 minutes.
The Bald Eagles hard-fought effort continued in the second half as they put the early pressure on and created several good scoring chances. Despite some good looks, LHU just couldn't find the back of the net despite the early press.
Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and rookie
Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) provided a spark on the attack.
Urbana's Jordan Coxall broke open the tie in the 68
th minute and the Blue Knights got a late insurance-goal from Jake Wischmeier (89').
Despite the loss, LHU head coach
Patrick Long credited his defensive unit and was pleased with the effort.
LHU goalkeeper
Troy Teresak (Pompton Plains, N.J./DePaul Catholic) kept The Haven in the game as well and finished with four saves.
The Bald Eagles opened the 2016 season Thursday (Sept. 1) at Daemen and came away with a dominating 3-1 victory.
A busy start to the 2016 season continues as LHU is set for its home-opener on Wednesday, September 7 vs. Roberts Wesleyan (4 p.m., Stern Athletic Complex).
