LHU tops Bloomsburg in PSAC showdown

The LHU men’s soccer team opened PSAC play in thrilling fashion as the Bald Eagles downed rival Bloomsburg, 2-1.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (3-1-1, 1-0 PSAC) opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action in thrilling fashion today as the Bald Eagles downed local-rival Bloomsburg University (1-4-1, 0-3-1 PSAC), 2-1 for an important three points.
 
Lock Haven got second-half goals from Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and the Bald Eagles defense held strong in the game's final moments.
 
LHU and Bloomsburg were deadlocked at 0-0 after an opening 45 minutes of physical and back-and-forth action.
 
Amspacher scored early in the second half (47') to put LHU up 1-0. It was his team-leading and PSAC-best seventh goal of the season. Tyler Shumaker (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Preparatory) was credited with an assist.
 
Flatter's first career goal came in the 49th minute as Lock Haven took over the match early in the second half. Amspacher was credited with the helper on the goal.
 
Ken Herrmann got one back for the visitors in the 59th minute, but LHU held strong down the stretch.
 
Troy Teresak's (Pompton Plains, N.J./DePaul Catholic) one save was a huge difference maker.
 
Alec Mapoy (Brick, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) turned in a stellar effort on the defensive side.
 
LHU returns to action Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m. on the road at Gannon University.
