NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team opened the 2016 season in big way as the Bald Eagles (1-0) scored early and often on the way to a dominating 8-1 victory at Sacred Heart University (0-3).
Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) and
Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) each scored twice and Lock Haven got four more goals from four different players.
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) opened the scoring just 9:14 into the match and less than 12 minutes in it was 2-0 as the Bald Eagles rolled from the opening whistle.
George added three assists to go along with her game-opening tally. The five-point game clearly sparked the LHU offense.
Goalkeeper
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) picked up the win after 62-plus minutes of action. She made three saves, while
Brianna DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa./Monmouth) made one stop in the final eight minutes.
LHU's 2016 home-opener is set for Sunday, September 4 at noon vs. Towson.
