Balanced attack leads LHU to 8-0 win

The LHU field hockey team used a balanced attack and stingy defense to shutdown visiting Towson 8-0 in dominating victory.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team got eight goals from eight different players and limited visiting Towson (0-4) to just one shot on the way to a dominating 8-0 victory.
 
With the win Lock Haven moves to 2-0.
 
The Bald Eagles have outscored their opponents 16-1 through the first two games. Today marked LHU's second straight eight-goal game and first shutout of the season.
 
LHU scored twice in the first half and added six second-half goals.
 
Townson managed just one shot in 70 minutes and it was turned away by standout defender Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) who made the defensive save off the line.
 
Michele Enck (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) opened the scoring in the 28th minute and Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) made it 2-0 in the 31st minute of play.
 
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), MacKenzie Farley (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs), Emily Robb (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor), Taryn Piano (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg), Megan Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent) all scored for the Bald Eagles.
 
McCabe also dished out two assists.
 
Freshmen Farley, Robb, Piano and Miller all scored their first career goals.
 
The Bald Eagles opened the 2016 season on Friday (Sept. 2) at Sacred Heart and came home with a lopsided 8-1 victory.
 
LHU returns to action next Saturday (Sept. 10) at home vs. Siena (1 p.m.), before traveling to No. 18 Penn State. Last season, LHU beat Penn State for the first time in 30 years.
