Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Bald Eagles rally, but edged by Saint Francis

The LHU field hockey team rallied late, but in the end Saint Francis held on for a 2-1 A-10 victory.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team turned up the offense late and rallied, but Saint Francis held off the Bald Eagles comeback as the Red Flash held on for a 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) victory.

Saint Francis scored one goal in each half and improved to 7-4 overall (1-1 A-10). With the loss, LHU moved to 5-4 overall and the Bald Eagles are now 2-2 in conference play.

Brianna Govia put Saint Francis up 1-0 in the 32nd minute on the first Red Flash shot of the game. Saint Francis made it 2-0 in the 55th minute, but Lock Haven wasn't ready to give in.

With 6:09 left in the game, Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) deflected home a hard Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) shot and put the Bald Eagles on the board.

The goal gave LHU all the momentum as the Bald Eagles pressed hard. The pressure created several strong scoring chances and forced a number of late-game penalty corner attempts including one with no time left on the clock that forced a huge Red Flash save to keep the game away from overtime.

Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) turned in an outstanding game for Lock Haven and goalkeeper Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) made two saves.

LHU is right back in action on Sunday, October 2 at 11 a.m. when the Bald Eagles host Saint Louis in A-10 action.
