Women’s Basketball falls to Shippensburg

The LHU women’s basketball team fell to first-place Shippensburg in PSAC East action.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (6-9, 3-8 PSAC) fell to first place Shippensburg University (12-5, 7-4 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action by a score of 72-58.
 
The first quarter saw the Red Raiders jump out to an early lead, before the Bald Eagles cut into the lead as the quarter wrapped up. In the second quarter Lock Haven and Shippensburg traded baskets.
 
Madison McHale (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) and Kayla Henderson (Philadelphia/Lackawanna College) led LHU in scoring in the first half with seven points apiece.
 
Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) also hauled in five rebounds in the first half. Going into the game Mealing was No. 1 in the PSAC in rebounds per game and No. 2 in NCAA DII with 12.7.
 
In the fourth quarter LHU tried everything they could to cut into the Shippensburg lead. LHU scored their most points in the fourth while holding Ship to their fewest points in any quarter.
 
Freshmen Ali Hillson (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield H.S.) and Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) both had career nights as they each scored 11 points.
 
In all LHU had four players reach the double digit scoring mark. McHale and Henderson finished the game with 11 and 12 points respectively.
 
Mealing hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds while scoring nine points.
 
Lock Haven's bench stepped up as they had 27 points and held Shippensburg's bench to only 10.  
 
Today's game marked the Bald Eagles third game in six days. LHU will head next to Mansfield on Wednesday, January 18 (5:30 p.m) for another PSAC East matchup.
