ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (7-5) rallied in the second half and got a 66
th minute goal from freshman
Lauren Cole (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim), but the surge came up short as host Cornell (6-3) held on for a 2-1 non-conference win.
For Cole, it marked her first career collegiate goal.
Cornell took a 1-0 lead just 7:28 into the contest and the Big Red made it 2-0 in the 52
nd minute.
Trailing 2-0 late in the match, the Bald Eagles surged and were rewarded for their efforts. The speedy
Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anesty East) darted through the Cornell defense and slotted a pass to Cole, who fired the ball home for the Lock Haven goal.
LHU had several other chances late, but just couldn't find the equalizer.
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) finished with five saves.
Lock Haven will return to action on Friday, Oct. 6 at Saint Louis. The Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) contest is set for a 7 p.m. EST start.
