LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (9-6) scored three goals in the second half to defeat Lehigh University (3-10) by a final of 3-1 in non-conference action.
The LHU defense was stout throughout the game, led by
Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishops Anesty East) who limited the Mountain Hawks to only three shots and no corners in the first half.
After a slow start to the game, The Haven offense got the spark they needed in the 40
th minute when
Katie Supey (Lehman, Pa./Syracuse) led a break-a-way and sent a pass to
Taryn Piano (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) who dove to knock it in and take the 1-0 lead.
Lehigh would respond shortly after as they used a give and go off of their penalty corner to tie the game at 1-1.
LHU would then turn up the action on offense as
Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) collected the loose ball in front of the net and beat the keeper near post to give LHU the 2-1 lead.
Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) would cap the scoring late and give Lock Haven some breathing room when she used some nifty stick work to get around two defenders and her shot far post found the back of the net to take the 3-1 lead.
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) was the starting goalkeeper playing just over 48 minutes deterring one shot on net.
Brianna DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa./Monmouth) would finish the remainder of the game in net as she did not face a shot.
The Haven will return to the field on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m. when they host Bucknell on senior day.
