LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (9-7) was edged 2-1 by longtime local-rival Bucknell University (8-8) at home on Charlotte Smith Field in an all-around tightly-contested non-conference match.
Today marked LHU's Senior Day and prior to the start of the match the Bald Eagles honored their two seniors -
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and
Michele Enck (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) – for their many contributions to the program over their remarkable careers.
Today's game marked the 48
th all-time meeting between LHU and Bucknell as just 48 miles separate the two Central, Pennsylvania Division I field hockey powers.
For Lock Haven,
Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anesty East) was the biggest story as she scored the team's only goal – her first of the season – in the first half. She also had a defensive save late in the second half to keep Lock Haven in the game.
Bucknell took a 1-0 lead just 3:39 into the contest, but the Bald Eagles were quick to tie the match.
In the 10
th minute, Brathwaite scored off a crossing-pass from
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain).
With just 15 seconds left in the match, Bucknell's Leah Fogelsanger found the game-winner after a goal-mouth scramble in front.
The Bald Eagles have just two regular season games remaining, both on the road. On Friday, Oct. 27, LHU will travel to former Northeast Conference (NEC) rival Rider for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference contest. On Sunday, Oct. 29 (2 p.m.), the Bald Eagles will cap Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) play at Saint Francis.
