LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (11-14, 4-9 PSAC) dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) home match 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-18) to California University of Pennsylvania (13-11, 7-6 PSAC).
The Bald Eagles started the match strong, going back and forth with Cal early on. However, The Vulcans were able to go on a big run and take the first set.
LHU showed their resiliency and came out strong in the second set.
Veronica Morrison (Sugar Run, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) had a run of five consecutive kills which allowed The Haven to build an early set lead.
The Vulcans were able to answer the strong LHU second set start with a run of their own. Ultimately, Cal was able to make a few more plays than the Bald Eagles to take a back and forth second set.
The Vulcans were then able to hold off a late Haven rally to take the third set and the match.
The Lock Haven offense was led by
Gabrielle Stick (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and her 12 kills while Morrison was next on the team with 10 kills.
Kristen Nealon (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) played another solid game for LHU, tallying 28 assists.
Shaye Whiteman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) led Lock Haven on defense with 18 digs while Nealon had 11 and
Holly Shoemaker (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) had 10.
The Bald Eagles hit the road for their next match on Friday, November 3 as the travel to Indiana, Pennsylvania to take on the Crimson Hawks of IUP. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
