LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (8-9, 1-4 PSAC) dropped their first game of a three game home stand tonight against West Chester (12-4, 2-3 PSAC) 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18).
The Bald Eagles came out strong in the first set, looking to establish a rhythm and make a statement early. The Rams were able to counter the strong play the Haven came out with and escaped the first set with a narrow 25-23 win.
After the Rams pulled out another narrow 2
nd set win, the Bald Eagles were able to force a 4
th set after strong play from
Breanna McDonald (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and
Chloe Williams (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) helped the Haven steal the 3
rd set.
In the 4
th set, West Chester came out hot and Lock Haven couldn't quite find an answer for the power of West Chester's attackers.
The Bald Eagle offense was led by McDonald and her 10 kills, while
Annie Dombrowski (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) added nine kills of her own.
Kristen Nealon (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) played a great all-around game for the Haven, tallying 31 assists and 11 digs.
The Haven defense, led by
Shaye Whiteman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg), was solid all throughout the night. Whiteman led Lock Haven with 33 digs while four other Bald Eagles also reached double figures in that department.
Next up for the Bald Eagles is a home match on Saturday, October 7 against Cheyney. Game is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
