SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Amir Hinton (Philadelphia/Abington) led the way for the Bald Eagles, but his stellar individual effort wasn't enough to lead the Lock Haven University men's basketball (0-1) as LHU dropped its 2017-18 season-opener to regionally-ranked Virginia Union (1-0).
For Lock Haven, it marked the first of two games at the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic, hosted by Shippensburg. Tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 11), LHU meets Shaw at 3 p.m.
Hinton, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) leading scorer and Rookie of the Year last year, was 11 of 21 from the floor today. He knocked down four 3-pointers and added a game-high eight rebounds.
Tarojae Brake (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara) added 12 points and
Ra'eese Hunt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) chipped in with 11.
Hinton also had five steals in all-around solid game.
Newcomer
Marques Jackson (Philadelphia/Monsignor Bonner) looked solid and finished with six rebounds.
LHU trailed by two at the break, 72-69 and Virginia Union led by as many as 10 midway through the second half, but the Bald Eagles found back.
In the, Lock Haven's comeback bid came up just short.
