MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lock Haven University softball team opened the 2017 season today (Friday, Feb. 17) with two games at the Snowbird Freezeout Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Bald Eagles dropped a pair of games today.
LHU opened the season with a tough, 5-3 loss to New Haven that saw the Chargers come from behind and plate two runs in the bottom of sixth, which proved to be the difference in the outcome.
In game two, Lock Haven fell to Concord, 10-0.
Game 1: New Haven 5 – Lock Haven 3
Lock Haven jumped on UNH early and led 2-0 after the top half of the first, thanks to RBI-doubles from both
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) and
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott). Freshman
Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) homered in the fourth.
The three Lock Haven runs came off eight total hits.
Game 2: Concord 9 – Lock Haven 0 (5 inn.)
Lock Haven dropped its second game of the day, falling to Concord, 9-0 in five innings.
A look ahead:
Today's two games marked the first of six total games this weekend at the tournament. Tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 18), LHU plays Wilmington (Del.) at 12 p.m., before playing Glenville State at 2 p.m. The Bald Eagles will wrap up their opening weekend on Sunday (Feb. 19) with games vs. Southern New Hampshire (10 a.m.) and Le Moyne (12 p.m.).
