MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lock Haven University softball team (1-3) split on the second day of the 2017 season, as the Bald Eagles played another two games at the Snowbird Freezeout Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina today (Saturday, Feb. 18).
LHU opened the day with a 7-0 loss to Wilmington, before posting a 5-2 win over Glenville State.
Game 1: Wilmington (Del.) 7 – Lock Haven 0
In game one, Wilmington scored seven runs on eight hits on the way to the 7-0 win.
The Bald Eagles were once again led by
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon), who was 2 for 3 at the plate. Despite the loss, starting-pitcher
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) struck out 11.
Game 2: Lock Haven 5 – Glenville State 2
The Bald Eagles picked up their first win of the 2017 season with a solid 5-2 win over Glenville State in LHU's second game of the day.
Garlock continued her strong start the plate with one hit and a RBI, and
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) hit a home run in the seventh to spark LHU to its first win of the season.
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) went the distance on the way to her first win of the season in the circle.
A look ahead:
The Bald Eagles will wrap up their season-opening weekend tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 19) with games vs. Southern New Hampshire (10 a.m.) and Le Moyne (12 p.m.). Lock Haven is 1-3 so far this season.
