LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Redshirt-freshman
Amir Hinton (Philadelphia/Abington) scored a remarkable 42 points, just four away from a school record and the Lock Haven University men's basketball team dominated the second half on the way to securing a 97-85 victory over Mansfield (10-15, 7-14 PSAC), and cementing the Bald Eagles spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament in the process of the big win.
The victory pushed Lock Haven above .500 at 13-12 and helped LHU moved to 9-12 in PSAC play, locking up the final spot from the PSAC Eastern Division for the upcoming playoffs. The Bald Eagles still have one regular season game remaining on Saturday at Bloomsburg University and it holds playoff implications for final PSAC Tournament seeding.
It will mark LHU's fourth consecutive PSAC playoff appearance.
The biggest story tonight was Hinton who netted 42 points. He was 12 of 21 from the field, 16 of 19 from the free-throw line and he added two 3-pointers. Hinton also tallied seven rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
It's the first 40-point game for Lock Haven since Wali Hepburn scored 40 on December 2, 2012. The school record for points in a single game is 46.
Ra'eese Hunt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added 15 points, while
Cole Renninger (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) netted 13 points to go along with seven rebounds.
Tarojae Brake (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara) finished with nine points,
Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia/Philadelphia Electric Charter) had seven points and five assists, while
Craig Slade (Philadelphia/Constitution) contributed six points and 11 rebounds.
Mansfield led Lock Haven 39-37 at halftime thanks to 13 points from Malik Carter. Hinton led all scorers in the first half as he netted 16 points in another sensational start.
In was all LHU in the second as the Bald Eagles shot 69 percent from the field and racked up 60 second half points in flirting with the century mark.
For the game, LHU shot 54 percent from the field.
The Bald Eagles will close out the regular season on Saturday, February 25 at Bloomsburg University. The opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. Check
