BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Despite 27 points from rookie sensation
Amir Hinton (Philadelphia/Abington) and a 17-2 over the last five minutes of the game, the Lock Haven University men's basketball team (13-13, 9-13 PSAC) was edged 82-79 at Bloomsburg University (15-11, 11-11 PSAC) in the 2016-17 regular season finale for both teams.
Despite the loss, Lock Haven is headed to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. The No. 6 seed Bald Eagles will play at No. 3 seed East Stroudsburg Monday (February 27) night.
The loss today to Bloomsburg snapped a win streak for LHU, as the Bald Eagles entered the game on a three-game winning streak.
Today, Hinton shot 12 of 26 from the field and finished with 27 points. He added four assists and three steals.
Craig Slade (Philadelphia/Constitution) matched his season-high with 18 points and he added eight rebounds.
Ra'eese Hunt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) netted 15 points and
Tarojae Brake (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara) finished with seven points.
With the regular season in the books, Hinton takes 629 points into the postseason. The 629 points are the most ever by a PSAC freshman for a single season and are just 11 away from breaking the all-time LHU single-season scoring record.
In 26 games this season, Hinton averaged 24.2 points per game, which as of press time was tops in the league.
The PSAC Tournament starts Monday, February 27 with First Round action. For the second straight year, Lock Haven and East Stroudsburg will meet in the First Round.
Monday's game at ESU is set for a 7 p.m. tip.
LHU has won three of its last four games, and Lock Haven and East Stroudsburg split the season series with each team winning at home.
For the Bald Eagles, Monday's PSAC playoff game marks Lock Haven's fourth straight conference postseason tournament. LHU hasn't qualified for four straight PSAC Tournaments since the 1986-87, 1987-88, 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons. In all, it will be LHU's 13
th all-time PSAC postseason appearance.
