Baseball Sweeps West Virginia State in doubleheader

The LHU baseball team swept West Virginia State in a doubleheader allowing only one run and striking out 23 batters.

WILSON, NC. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (8-2) swept West Virginia State (7-5) in a doubleheader scoring a total of 18 runs and only allowing one. The pitching staff was terrific as they struck out 23 batters, walked two and only allowed eight hits.
 
This was day one of a busy spring break trip for the Bald Eagles.

Game 2: FINAL, Lock Haven 7 – West Virginia State 1
 
Game 1:
Jacob Belinda (Port Matilda, Pa./Tyrone) was dominant on the mound as he matched his career high in strikeouts sitting down 12 batters. He started out by striking out the first seven of eight batters and struck out all nine starting hitters for the Yellow Jackets. Belinda only allowed four hits and walked one. Tom Cockill (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Mercer Community College) took the mound for the seventh inning and struck out two more batters bringing the total to 14.
 
The LHU bats continued to stay hot as they batted around in two different innings and eight different players had at least one RBI.
 
Matt Lahn (Georgetown, Ont./Erie Community College) and Tyson Petersheim (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) led the way with two RBI's each. Lahn went 2-3 with a walk and Petersheim had a hit and a walk.
 
Keyshawn D'Orso (Pittsburgh/Mercyhurst North East Community College) had three hits, one walk and an RBI.
 
Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College), Cayden Stover (Beech Creek, Pa./Chesapeake College), Nick Stotler (Pittsburgh/Coker College), Kolby Dehaas (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho/Wenatchee Valley Community College) and Evan McFarland (Cottonwood, Ariz./Gateway Community) all chipped in with one RBI for The Haven.
 
Game 2:
Mike Anthony (Audubon, Pa./North Hampton Community College) was on the mound for game two and was in the zone. He threw a complete game allowing only four hits, one walk and striking out nine batters.
 
Lahn led the way at the plate as he had two more RBI's on one hit and one walk.
 
Szaflarski had two hits and one RBI while Dehaas also chipped in with an RBI for the Bald Eagles.
 
Up next:
LHU will take on Clarion University in a scheduled nine inning game on Tuesday, March 14.
