Game Recap: Softball |

Garlock hits walk-off home run in Game 1, LHU sweeps Millersville

McKenna Garlock hit a Game 1 walk-off home run and it was a complete team effort in Game 2 as the LHU softball team swept Millersville.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (9-11) benefitted from a walk-off home run in Game 1 and it was a total team effort that led the way to victory in Game 2, as LHU swept visiting Millersville University (11-12) in the Bald Eagles 2017 home-opener.

McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) hit a two-run walk-off home run in Game 1, to help Lock Haven take the opener, 2-1. In Game 2, Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) struck out six and LHU scored five runs on eight hits on the way to a 5-2 victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh in Game 1, Garlock hit a two-run home run to deep left field which gave the Bald Eagles the thrilling walk-off victory.

Garlock's home run came with one out and provided the difference in the outcome after starting pitchers Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) and Millersville's Cassidy Pinchorski locked up in a pitcher's duel that lasted just over an hour.

LHU's Mouillesseaux finished with five strikeouts and scattered five hits in seven innings of work. For Millersville, Pinchorski allowed just three hits and had a perfect-game going through four innings. Garlock broke up the bid in the fifth with a lead-off single up the middle. Garlock was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored in the Game 1 win.

In Game 2, Lock Haven jumped on Millersville early scoring a pair of first-inning runs, and in all, LHU scored five runs on eight hits as the bats warmed up. Slattery was dominant from the circle as well and struck out six, while allowing just six hits.

With Lock Haven leading 2-0, Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) broke open the game with an inside-the-park home run that scored three runs. Lindsey drilled the ball to the center field fence and there was never a doubt that the speedy and crafty baserunner was going all the way.

Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs in Game 2.

LHU will return to action on Friday, March 31 at 2:30 p.m. when the Bald Eagles host IUP in The Haven's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central opener.
