LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (13-5) split a doubleheader at home against Clarion University (4-11) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action.
Lock Haven won Game 1, 7-5 after the Bald Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the third to break open the game.
The bullpen also proved strong for LHU in the opener as
Tom Cockill (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Mercer Community College) was credited with the win after 3 2/3 innings of solid relief work. He allowed just two hits before giving way to closer
Breton LaRose (Ogensburg, N.Y./Sacred Heart) who struck out three straight Clarion batters in the top of the seventh - after giving up a single to open the inning – on the way to a save.
Matt Lahn (Georgetown, ONT./Erie Community College) propelled the Bald Eagle offense with a two-run home run in the first. LHU's six hits came from six different players, including one from
Sam Kysor (Port Allegany, Pa./USC Upstate) who had a triple in the third inning that cleared the bases and brought in three Lock Haven runs.
In Game 2,
Jimmy Webb (Williamsport, Pa./Wake Forest) did all he could to spark the offense as he launched a solo home run in the second, but was not enough as the Golden Eagles took down The Haven 4-2.
Jamie Eshleman (Lewisberry, Pa.) drove in the other LHU run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly.
Cayden Stover (Beech Creek, Pa./Chesapeake College) hit a triple which marks his second so far this season.
Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College) added two hits and a stolen base for the Bald Eagles.
Lock Haven and Kutztown are set for a four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East series this weekend. The two teams will open the series at Lock Haven on Friday, March 31 at 1/3 p.m.
