Game Recap: Softball |

Softball takes Game 1, 3-1; splits with Shepherd

The LHU softball team used a strong pitching effort and timely-hitting to win game one, which helped the Bald Eagles split with Shepherd today in non-conference action.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (15-15) won the opener of a non-conference doubleheader today with Shepherd University (23-12) 3-1, before the Rams took game two, 3-1.

Lock Haven combined clutch-hitting and another solid outing from pitcher Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) on the way to the 3-1 game-one win.

The Bald Eagles scored three runs on eight hits. McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) and Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) both went 2 for 3 at the plate. Holweger drove in a run in the first inning.

The Bald Eagles led 2-0 after the first and added an insurance-run in the sixth.

In the fifth winning Garlock made history, as she recorded the 43rd double of her career, which tied her for the top-spot in school history and leaves her one double away from the school record.

Slattery struck out seven on the way to the win.

In game two, Shepherd won 3-1.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, Lock Haven looked to rally, as Holweger doubled in a run, but that was it as Shepherd stood tall.

LHU's five game-two hits came from five different players.

On Friday, April 14, LHU will return to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division action as the Bald Eagles head to Clarion University (2:30/4:30 p.m.). On Saturday (April 15), Lock Haven will take on IUP on the road at 1 p.m. LHU sweep IUP at home on April 2.

Notes:
