CLARION, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (17-15, 7-3 PSAC Central) swept Clarion University (5-31, 1-9 PSAC Central) today on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division action after two dominating performances.
Lock Haven won game one 10-0 and downed host-Clarion 7-0 in game two. The sweep helped LHU improved to 17-15 overall and 7-3 in PSAC Central action.
Over the two-game span, LHU scored 17 runs on 30 total hits and LHU's pitching staff combined to throw 14 scoreless innings, while recording 14 strikeouts.
Highlighting the game-one victory was
McKenna Garlock's (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) first-inning, two-RBI double. The double was the 44
th of her career, which established a new school record for career doubles.
Lock Haven rolled in game one, scoring 10 runs on 17 hits en route to a 10-0 victory.
Garlock was one of six players, who recorded a multiple-hit game and in all, nine different Bald Eagles registered at least one hit as part of the offensive surge.
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) dominated at the plate and finished 4 for 5 with two RBIs.
Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) struck out eight in a dominating three-hit complete-game shutout.
In game two, the bats kept it going and LHU scored seven runs on 13 hits, and rolled to a 7-0 win.
Pitcher
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) backed up the offense with a solid outing. She threw a two-hit, seven-inning shutout. Mouillesseaux struck out six. She helped her own cause at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a home run, which sparked the offense in game two.
Ceely was sensational again and went 3 for 4 at the plate, while Garlock knocked in a pair of runs to follow up her record-breaking performance in game one.
Lock Haven will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, April 15) at IUP.
