LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (19-17, 9-5 PSAC Central) rode a pair of strong outings from pitchers
Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott), and the Bald Eagles benefitted from
Jodi Weaknecht's (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) offensive spark as they powered their way to crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division sweep (W, 2-1 & W, 8-1) of rival Mansfield University (20-11, 8-6 PSAC Central).
Lock Haven won game one 2-1 and completed the sweep with a dominating 8-1 victory in game two.
In game one, Weaknecht was 3 for 3 at the plate and her RBI-single down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh gave the Bald Eagles the thrilling walk-off win. She scored LHU's other run in the third when
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) singled her home.
Slattery was equally as impressive in game one as she tossed a one-hitter. She struck out four in the complete-game win.
In game two, Mouillesseaux was dominating as well and struck out seven. She scattered five hits.
The Bald Eagle bats racked up eight runs on 11 hits and powered their way to the 8-1 win.
LHU got the offense rolling the third after
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) hit a two-run home run and Mouillesseaux helped her own cause with two-RBI double.
Garlock was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored and
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Lock Haven's 11 hits came from nine different players.
Tomorrow (Saturday, April 22) marks LHU's 2017 Senior Day as the Bald Eagles host Pitt-Johnstown in PSAC Central Action. Game 1 is set for a 1 p.m. start.
