LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (23-17) won 2-1 and 3-2 (8 inn.), as the Bald Eagles swept visiting Bloomfield College (20-17) today in a non-conference doubleheader.
The sweep helped give eighth-year head coach
Kelly Shannon her 200
th career victory. All 200 wins have come here at The Haven.
Lock Haven won game one 2-1 and took game two in thrilling walk-off fashion, as
Becca Caputo's (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth gave the Bald Eagles the 3-2 game-two win, and helped LHU sweep.
LHU edged Bloomfield 2-1 in game one in what proved to be a pitchers' duel, as the two teams combined for seven hits. Lock Haven pitcher
Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) had a no-hitter going through four innings.
Leading 1-0 in the third inning,
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.) made it 2-0 Lock Haven. Weaknecht's RBI-single proved to be the difference in the win.
In game two, the two teams were tied 1-1 after seven innings, and Bloomfield quickly scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eight. The Bald Eagles were quick to provide a response of their own and Caputo was the hero after her RBI-single to right field brought home the winning-run.
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott), who was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Pitcher of the Week earlier today, dazzled on the way to another win, as she struck out 15.
The Bald Eagles have a pair of important PSAC Central doubleheaders remaining. On Friday (April 28) they will host Clarion University at 2:30/4:30 p.m. and Saturday, LHU travels to Bloomsburg University.
