LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second consecutive day the Lock Haven University baseball team (19-7, 8-4 PSAC East) split with Shippensburg University (12-16-1, 6-6 PSAC East) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action.
Playing today in Lock Haven, the Bald Eagles won game two, 5-2 to earn the split. The Red Raiders won the opener 5-3 in eight innings.
Despite a late-game rally in game one, Lock Haven fell to Shippensburg 5-3 in eight innings.
The Bald Eagles trailed 3-1 after 5 ½ innings, but LHU tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Nick Stotler's (Pittsburgh/Coker College) RBI-single made it 3-2 and
Justin Sleigh (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) tied the game at 3-3 after his double to right field drove in the tying run.
Shippensburg however went on to score two important and difference-making runs in the top of the eighth.
Starting pitcher
Brett Morrison (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) was solid for 7 1/3 innings and finished with five strikeouts.
At the plate,
Kolby DeHaas (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Wenatchee Valley Community College) went 2 for 3 and
Cayden Stover (Beech Creek, Pa./Chesapeake College) went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Stotler finished 2 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI.
In game two, LHU won 5-2 thanks to a four-run fourth inning.
Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College) was 2 for 3 with a RBI and
Jamie Eshleman (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) drove in a pair of runs. Stotler remained on pace at the plate and went 2 for 3 with a RBI.
Avery Eddy (Hughesville, Pa./Hugesville) picked up his second PSAC East win of the week. After winning on Monday at Kutztown, he improved to 4-1 on the season today after four solid innings on the mound.
Nick Hornbaker (Lancaster, Pa./East Stroudsburg Univ.) worked the final three innings on the way to a one-hit save. He struck out three.
The Bald Eagles are scheduled to host Seton Hill on Tuesday, April 11 (DH; 1/3 p.m.).
