LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-0) opened the 2017 season today (Friday, August 25) with a 4-1 victory over Sacred Heart (0-1).
The Bald Eagles led 1-0 at halftime, but scored three second half goals. The four LHU goals came from four different players including
Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport), who opened the scoring in the 24
th minute. Smith had a big game and finished with a goal and two assists.
Smith's goal came off a penalty corner and was assisted by
Tia Judy (East Prospect, Pa./Homeschooled) and
Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anesty East). Judy and Brathwaite were two of three freshmen who started today.
Early in the second half, senior
Michele Enck (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) made it 2-0 after diving to knock home a Smith pass.
Sacred Heart got on the board in the 47
th minute.
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) made it 3-1 in the 49
th minute, scoring off another penalty corner.
MacKenzie Farley (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) rounded out the scoring in the 53
rd minute.
Defensively,
Taylor Plouse (Middletown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led the way and LHU goalkeeper
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) finished with two saves.
LHU is right back in action on Sunday (Aug. 27) at noon when the Bald Eagles host Central Michigan. Sunday's game will mark the first meeting between the two schools since 2002.
