LHU edged by Bloomsburg in defensive battle

Bald Eagles fall in close PSAC battle to local-rival Bloomsburg.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (1-3, 1-3 PSAC) was edged out in a defensive battle by visiting Bloomsburg University (4-1, 3-1 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action, 1-0.

Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) was excellent in the net for the Bald Eagles and she recorded five saves in the contest.

The defense including Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run), Makayla Dickey (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Carly Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) stood tall throughout and held Bloomsburg in check for most of the game.

With the score knotted 0-0 in the 68th minute, Dickey had a big stop as she was the last defender near midfield, and knocked the ball away from the Husky attacker. Shortly after Hilty added to the defensive highlights with a point-blank save.

Jordan Shoff (York, Pa./Suburban) did all she could to power the offense, leading the team with three shots.

Bloomsburg finally cracked The Haven's defense in the 71st minute when Megan Callan scored after a cross into the box.

The Bald Eagles will return to action this weekend when they travel to take on Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, September 16 at 2:30 p.m.
