LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Amir Hinton (Philadelphia/Abington) became the fastest player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark, but his 25-point effort this evening wasn't enough to cap the Bald Eagles upset-bid as the Lock Haven University men's basketball team (5-10, 3-8 PSAC) was edged late by No. 17 West Chester University (14-1, 10-1 PSAC), 86-77, in a thrilling Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East nail-biter.
Hinton's game-high 25 points highlighted three Bald Eagles in double-figures scoring.
Coming into the game, he needed 24 points to hit the 1,000-point mark and was sitting on 23 before hitting a jumper with just 21 seconds left. The two points moved him to 25 on the night and 1,001 for his remarkable two-season career.
Hinton – only a sophomore – played in just his 42nd career game today, making his 1,000-point achievement all that more impressive. As of press time, Hinton is believed to be the fastest in PSAC history to reach the 1,000-point mark. He's the 18
th men's basketball player in school history to reach the 1,000 point mark.
Tarojae Brake (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara) was outstanding today as well, and finished with 22 points, while
Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added 18 points.
Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) came off the bench, scored nine points and pulled in five rebounds.
Hinton was 7 of 16 from the field and knocked down four 3-pointers. Brake hit a pair of 3's and also grabbed six rebounds.
West Chester held a 42-29 advantage in rebounds and Jackson Hyland netted 10 points.
On Wednesday (Jan. 17), Lock Haven will host Millersville University at 7:30 p.m.
