Women’s Basketball downed by Kutztown

The LHU women’s basketball team fell on the road to PSAC East foe Kutztown.

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (3-15, 2-12 PSAC) fell on the road to Kutztown University (11-8, 6-7 PSAC) 73-62 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East showdown at Kutztown.

The Bald Eagles and the Golden Bears played a game of runs in the first half. Kutztown was able to start the game by jumping out to a 25-12 lead in the first quarter. Lock Haven then began the second quarter with a nice 15-4 run of their own to cut the deficit to 29-27 before the Golden Bears made two three pointers in the final minute of the half to extend the lead to 35-27 at the break.

In the second half, Kutztown started the half strong and extended the lead a bit more. The Bald Eagles continued to fight and cut the deficit to eight in the fourth quarter, but Kutztown was able to withstand the late Haven charge to hold on and get the win.

The LHU offense was led by Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) and Kayla Henderson (Philadelphia/Lackawanna College) as they each scored 16 points apiece. Devine was 4-7 from the field, including 2-3 from the three-point line, to go along with her efficient 6-7 from the free throw line. Henderson was 6-8 from the field to go along with three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) played a strong game inside for the Bald Eagles, tallying seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Lock Haven will return to the court next Wednesday, January 31 at home against Mansfield University. That game is set to tip at 5:30 p.m.
