Late game heroics lead Bald Eagles past Mounties

Rileigh Devine and Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh made big plays down the stretch to help lead Lock Haven past Mansfield

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Big plays down the stretch from Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) and Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) helped lead the Lock Haven University women's basketball team (4-15, 3-12 PSAC) past Mansfield University (7-15, 5-11 PSAC) 61-56 in a very tight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East nail-biter at Thomas Fieldhouse.

With the Bald Eagles trailing 56-55, Devine was able to size up her defender and drive by her to lay the ball in the basket to put LHU up by one with 53 seconds left to play. On the next possession, the Lock Haven defense was about to lock all doors and force a Mountie shot clock violation with just 20 seconds remaining.

On the ensuing in-bounds play, The Bald Eagles got the ball to Shelton-Burleigh, an 88 percent free throw shooter on the year, and she was able to knock down both clutch free throws to put The Haven up by three with 12 seconds left to play.

After forcing a Mansfield turnover, Kayla Henderson (Philadelphia/Lackawanna College) found Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) wide open off the in-bounds play for a lay-up, a five-point lead, and the capper on a huge win for Lock Haven.

Devine led the Bald Eagle offense with 19 points to go along with two steals while Shelton-Burleigh added 12 points and six rebounds.

Henderson and Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) both played strong games as well. Henderson finished the game with nine points, four rebounds and two assists while Parker finished with five points and a career-high nine rebounds.

The Bald Eagles will travel to Bloomsburg for the team's next game on Saturday, February 3. That game is scheduled to for a 1:00 p.m. tip
