CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Amir Hinton (Philadelphia/Abington) scored a school-record 47 points, but his remarkable individual effort wasn't enough to as the Lock Haven University men's basketball (5-8, 3-6 PSAC) was edged by host California (Pa.) University (7-8, 3-6 PSAC) 97-94 in an overtime-thriller.
Hinton was 15 of 20 from the floor and added 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a sensational individual performance.
Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood), the reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Week, added 13 points and
Tarojae Brake (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara) chipped in with 10.
Ra'eese Hunt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) netted nine points and added eight rebounds.
Lock Haven dominated the opening half of the game and led by 21 (45-24) at the break.
Cal scored 56 second-half points and used a 12-0 run early in the second to get back into the game.
Hinton's only 3-pointer of the game came with 25 seconds left in OT and tied the game at 94-94. Cal's Isaiah Lewis proved to be the hero with a 3-pointer of his own. Lewis' 3 came with three seconds left in overtime and proved to the difference in the 97-94 win.
Tonight marked the first of three conference games this week for LHU. The Bald Eagles will travel to Shippensburg Wednesday before hosting West Chester on Saturday.
