LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Visiting Saint Francis (8-7, 4-2 A-10) scored once in each half and edged the Haven University field hockey team (7-6, 1-3 A-10), 2-1, today on Charlotte Smith Field in Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) action.
Prior to the start of the game, LHU took time to honor head coach
Pat Rudy, who recorded her 600
th career win on Friday (Oct. 5) at Davidson. Lock Haven Director of Athletics,
Dr. Tom Gioglio and Associate AD Dr.
Danielle Barney presented Rudy with a plaque.
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) was the goal scorer for the Bald Eagles today. She scored in the 18
th minute off a corner.
The Red Flash went up 1-0 just 11:01 into the game when they converted on a penalty corner player. Brea Seabrook scored the goal for SFU.
Roach's goal in the 18
th minute tied the match at 1-1. Both
Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anesty East) and
Tia Judy (East Prospect, Pa./Homeschooled) were credited with assists on the goal.
After a level 1-1 score at halftime, Saint Francis found the game-winner in the 56
th minute when Kate Viera knocked a loose ball home at the far post. The goal proved to be the difference in the outcome.
Defensively, the Bald Eagles were sound for much of the match and goalkeeper
Brianna DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa./Monmouth) played an aggressive game today which helped her rack up three saves in 70 minutes.
On Sunday (Oct. 14), LHU will host Saint Louis at 12 p.m. in A-10 action.
